Respec Point Grinding Guide
Revised, 05-02-05
The Following guide will only be effective during the time that you can Respec your characters.
please e-mail Zak in game, or wadehone@hotmail.com about any error's or suggestions of things to add to this guide.
Combat Upgrade, Leveling up an un maxed out Combat Template Quickly.
To help you to get to the combat template that you’d like to have as quickly as possible during this crazy ReSpec time.
With this Respec ability in place, there are a few things to keep in mind that will help help people spend a bit less time at the EXP Grind to get your Combat Character's ready to play. This document is meant as a place to house tips and ideas for just that purpose.
The key is to change the mind set that XP is the way that you advance levels, and increase skills, it is a requirement, but the TRUE ingredient, (at least for the next few weeks,) are Respec points. If you think in terms of using XP to get Respec, points, and use Respecing to advance your template, then the grind can be cut down to much less than half the XP required to master your combat professions of choice.
This next section goes over the method that I'd recommend now... Feel free to read the stuff after this section, but I think that this way is much more economic.
Section 1
Use /respec to get to the respec screen, you can respec at least once every 12 hours. But you can get into the screen when ever you'd like.
First, 2 Standard points are the same as 1 Elite point when you are respecing. Also, Standard respec points are the easiest to earn as they come from the skill's just above novice. The first tier above novice normally costs just 1000 Experience points. So that means you get the 2 Standard respec points, which can be converted to 1 Elite Respec point for only 1000 XP! (if you were to train an elite profession skill box, it would cost you about 22,000 XP per point.)
So I recommend getting novice scout, And training one Elite profession up as high as you can. Then kill things with your elite profession, and harvest everything to get Scout XP...
Use that Scout XP to train up the 3 columns that you can earn by harvesting. if you have Scout 4-0-4-4 then you'd have 42 points, if you have any kind of high level combat profession, that xp, really wouldn't be to hard to get.
That means that when you re-spec, you have 21 Elite points to work with! that is three Tier 1 Elite boxes filled! That would normally cost 525,000 Exp points. using this strategy, you end up getting those elite skills for much less.
Personally I like to go with 3-0-3-3 of scout. that's only 63K Exp, and you'd get 27 Standard points (13 Elite) to use in your re-spec, do that once every 12 hours, and you'll have your master Doctor, Combat medic in no time (without even casting a heal!)
If your main Elite is Ranger, and you can't work with scout XP, then in theory you can use this with the Brawler or medic basic skills as well... use your main combat elite profession as your main attack, but slip a hit in with any of the Brawler weapons, or get off a heal during the fight, then train up those skills. Just one hit will net you a good portion of the xp for the weapon type that you used.
Eventually you'll use all your Skill points maxing out your Elite Professions. so, you'll want to focus on scouting when that happens.
My Sample CU level 80 Template. (added 5-02-05)
Personally, I built up Rifleman to master using the previously described method, In each respec, I would keep Scout 0-0-4-0 as a skill, so that I could maintain any Scout XP that I had built up (usually the max of 75K stored XP.) I'd respec a few Elite points into Teras Kasi, but mostly I didn't spend my Elite points. I left them in the Respec, screen unspent where I could use them for later. I would keep enough skills untrained every time I respec'd my character, to give me 40 Skill points to work with.
When I got done Respecing, I would immediately go to the scout Trainer and Train 4--0-4-0, that would allow me to work on the Elite profession novice Bounty hunter (Rifleman and BH share the marksman requirement.) that cost was about 43K combat xp to train the Novice BH skill.
BH also has a tree that uses Rifle XP, since I was a master Rifleman, then I had gobs of it, so I would train the first tier of that skill as well.
I'd some times have enough Scout XP saved up to Train Novice Creature Handler, if, not, then I'd go grind some of that with Rifleman.
I'd then use the rest of the skills points back in Scout, attempting to get it to: 4-0-4-4. Then I'd grind up enough EXP to get stored Scout XP to 75K, and as much Rifle XP as I could snag, which I would use on the BH Rifle Tree branch next time I respec 'd.
This system, would get 28 or 29 Elite Points every respec. It goes pretty fast, and in no time, I was able to respec to my master Rifleman, TKM. fun fun fun.
Enjoy.
-----
and Good luck!
-You get more Respec points for Less XP cost, in the lower Tier skill Boxes. i.e..
--IF you convert a tier 1 box to respec. points, you get 8 points for 175,000 xp. Which is 21,875 XP points per 1 Respec. Point.
--If you convert a tier 4 box to respect. Points you get 11 points for 450,000 xp. Which is 40,909 XP points per 1 Respc. Point.
-(the respec point to XP ratio is even better at novice levels.)
-While respecing, remember that, your Elite and Standard points can be traded around. (Specific ratio = 2 Standard points for 1 Elite point. )
- Pistol Experience is Used to get Elite respec points in the Pistoleer, Smuggler, and Squad Leader professions, (Squad leader Requires Combat EXP, for novice.)
-The higher that you build up your pistol skills, the easier it becomes to make more pistol experience.
Example:
Keeping the above points in mind, here is a scenario that illustrates the points.
Since the better you are with pistols, the easier it is to get more pistol xp, and Since Pistol XP can be used to grow your smuggler, or Squad leader, then It makes since to put all of your combat Respec points into pistoleer. EVEN if your thinking of making a swordsman, or a Teris Kasi master. (just make sure you re-spec to your final template previous to this respec phase being closed, as it wouldn't be cool if you were stuck with something you didn't want to play.
So first, Dump as many skill points as you can into Pistoleer. (for me that ended up being 4-4-4-4) This makes it pretty easy to Gain Pistoleer XP. Then, as you gain Pistoleer XP, put train it into the novice box, or one of the First Skill level (1-1-1-x) boxes of Smuggler (or Squad leader) as you level up.
As you respect every 12 hours (or as you train up that first row of Smuggler Skill level boxes and respec, ) make sure that you never lose a Respec point! In some instances this may mean that you train novice skills in professions that you have no interest in ever actually using, OR that you end up with a 4-3-2-4 Pistoleer or something like that, just so that you always keep the points every time that you re-spec. (remember they are worth at least 22K experience each respec point.)
Also, don't waste time, Training any Tier level 2 or higher boxes, it means that it will just take you longer to get to more ReSpec points, only train Tier 1 or novice Elite Boxes, that's the key. I think that Pistol XP is the only one that you can do this with, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
In Text this guide may sound a bit confusing, but if your looking at your re-spec screen, it ends up making pretty good sense.
Bottom line, is that re-spec. points are the new ‘XP’ for the next couple of weeks. you may not want to play a pistoleer as your final template, But you'll find that it's the quickest way to get you to your final double master template. Just remember, You’ll want to make sure that you actually Spec. out the toon that you really want to play previous to that ability being Frozen for ever.
oh, ya, if your building a Pistoleer from scratch, make sure that you don't ever 'train' the Tier 2 boxes or a above, even if you have the XP to do it... Train a tier 1 box from either Smuggler, or SL and then convert those Boxes to Respec points, THEN use those Respec points to build up your pistoleer.
Enjoy your Double XP week.
