For all of you aspiring politicians out there, heres a little guide for doing what you might want to do to master the profession.
Unlike other profesions, there is no way to do politician without other people's direct help. The first step you need to take is find a city that you want to be mayor of, or start your own city.
Every week after you get elected, you will receive 100xp simply for being in office, along with 300xp per vote at the end of each 3week election cycle. The best way to get xp is to increase your cities population, until you get to the point where you can place a shuttleport. The first box you should get is X1XX, martial policy. After you arrange your militia, you should define your goals for the city. The next level you need to get is Civic policy 2, so you can place trainers and mission terminals, which will make your city functional. After this you should work up to Fiscal policy 2. Leave the city customization branch alone until you get at least level 2 in all the other branches. It can take a long time to master politician, but with a concerted effort, it can be made worthwhile.
